Nippon Steel announced on October 14 that it has filed a lawsuit of patent right infringement against Toyota and Baosteel.

Baosteel is the subsidiary of China Baowu Steel Group. Baosteel supplies its electrical steel sheet to Toyota to be used in making the electric vehicles sold in Japan. Nippon Steel thought that Toyota and Baosteel infringed its patent by supplying and using the electrical steel sheet, and Nippon Steel asked for a 20 billion yen compensation from the two companies.

Nippon Steel filed the lawsuit in Tokyo, and in addition to asking for a 20 billion yen compensation from Toyota and Baosteel, it also asked the court to stop Toyota from selling the products using the controversial electrical steel sheet.
